Be Part Of It!

Can you spare an hour of your time this summer?

Be Part Of It Be Part of It is the new Party in the Park Volunteer Scheme.

Launched in the Autumn of 2012, the scheme has been set up to offer opportunities to anyone who would like to:

• get more involved with the Peasedown St John community
• have fun and meet new people
• add some volunteering experience to their CV
• have a reference for a new job, college or university
• make a difference!

What is Party in the Park?

Peasedown's Party in the Park Festival was set up in 2009. The main aim was to organise an annual, family event that would help build community spirit throughout the village and restore a sense of pride in Peasedown.

Within a short space of time, Party in the Park achieved these aims and more, becoming one of the biggest and most popular community events in Bath and North East Somerset. Our annual June event now attracts over 3,000 people and raises more than £4,000 which is reinvested back into the local community by supporting future events and local projects.

The event includes live music, special guests, live radio broadcasts, hot food, stalls and attractions for the whole family, and much more.

In 2010, the group organised their first 'Christmas in the Park' event, which is on a smaller scale but still provides an opportunity for the village to come together to celebrate the festive season.

The Party in the Park team also coordinates other Peasedown-based initiatives including:

• The Party in the Park Grant Fund which makes donations to good causes in the village.
• The Sara Holley Community Award which recognises and rewards volunteers in the village
• Staying for the Weekend? - an initiative to support the local tourist industry
• Peasedown Diamond - an exclusive cider brewed just for the community

Why volunteer?

Be Part Of It Volunteering is one of the most rewarding things you can ever do.

Giving up your time to support a good cause, take part in a project or help organise an event goes a long way. It tells other people a lot about you and shows that you're motivated and prepared to help others.

Thousands of people across the country spend time volunteering. Some of the most successful campaigns ever run have been established and managed by volunteers.

'Volunteers don't just do the work ~ they make it work.'
Carol Pettit

'If you don't have any charity in your heart you have the worst kind of heart trouble.'
Bob Hope

'Volunteers are seldom paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless!'

'Volunteering is not a choice, it's a responsibility.'

Why volunteer with us?

It takes over 50 volunteers to make our main summer event happen, both before and during the big day. A lot of organisation goes into ensuring Party in the Park is a success and the event’s positive reputation continues to grow.

By supporting Party in the Park, you will not only be making a valuable contribution to events that put a smile on people’s faces but playing a key role in the overall aims of the project, which are to build community spirit in Peasedown St John; bring people together and put our community on the map!

What will I be expected to do and how much time will it take?

Be Part Of It We want to hear from anyone who is interested in volunteering with us no matter what their skills and experience, or how much time they have available.

There are a number of roles that people can undertake either to help with the organisation of the event or on the day itself. If you want to develop a particular skill but have no previous experience, let us know! Our existing volunteers can help act as mentors.

To organise an event like this involves raising funds, PR and promotion, organising the entertainment programme, keeping accounts, preparing Health & Safety documentation and much, much more!

As volunteering is about choice, you can give as much or as little time as you wish. Even if you can only spare a couple of hours to distribute some programmes, source a couple of raffle prizes or help out on the day, it all helps!

Examples of roles on the day include:

• Collecting money at entrance gates
• Setting up PA equipment for the stage
• Running community stalls
• Overseeing road closures
• Clearing litter
• Setting up and dismantling equipment

In general, volunteering opportunities with us take place at the summer festival but by signing up with us you may also be invited to take part in any of the other initiatives listed above.

What's in it for you?

People volunteer because they want to contribute something to society in their free time. The personal benefits they gain from volunteering are numerous and often unexpected but include increased self-confidence, a sense of purpose, a feeling of well-being, new friendships and new skills.

At Be Part of It, we also offer our volunteers a certificate, a gift and a reference (if required) for school/college/university or a new job. We also hold an annual 'Thank You' party each Autumn, where you can meet the other volunteers involved. Most of all we want to make sure your time with us is fun and your experience of volunteering positive.
